The Japanese term furoshiki refers both to the technique of folding and knotting a cloth and to the square piece of cloth used for this technique of packing and carrying personal belongings. This traditional technique of wrapping objects with a cloth has existed in Japan for hundreds of years. The Japanese furoshiki was then used to pack one's belongings quickly or to pack one's clothes in public baths to easily recognize them.
