Who gave Luffy his hat?

Luffy's iconic straw hat was given to him by Red-Haired Shanks, one of the Four Emperors (Yonko). When Luffy was a child in his hometown of Foosha Village, he admired Shanks and his pirate crew, often spending time with them and even expressing his own dream of becoming a pirate. 

In a key moment that shaped Luffy’s life, Shanks saved him from a sea monster called the Lord of the Coast, sacrificing his left arm in the process. This act deeply impacted Luffy, showing him what it truly means to be a pirate and reinforcing his determination to become stronger. Before leaving the village, Shanks entrusted his precious straw hat to Luffy, telling him to return it only after he’d become a "great pirate." 

This straw hat has since become a symbol of Luffy's journey and his promise to Shanks, as well as his dream of becoming the Pirate King. Interestingly, the hat itself seems to have a deeper legacy within the One Piece world, as it once belonged to Gol D. Roger, the previous Pirate King.
