Spade Pirates

Who were the Spade Pirates?

The Spade Pirates were led by Portgas D. Ace before he joined the Whitebeard Pirates. Ace founded the crew while sailing the Grand Line, and their name reflected the symbol he carried. His adventures with his crewmates are part of the story that shaped the future Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.

Ace’s first crew

Before joining Whitebeard, Ace built a reputation as a powerful pirate captain in his own right. The Spade Pirates traveled with him through dangerous seas, where the crew faced the same challenges that confront every group pursuing the New World. Their history gives useful context for Ace’s later loyalty to Whitebeard and his family.
