Who Are the Drake Pirates?
The Drake Pirates are captained by X Drake, a former Marine officer who becomes a pirate and rises to prominence in the New World. His crew is named after its captain's unusual path through the world: Drake is both a formidable pirate and a character whose loyalties are more complicated than they first appear.
Drake is part of the generation of rising captains known for challenging the established powers. His strength and dinosaur-themed abilities make him easy to recognize, but his reserved personality suggests he is always keeping part of his plan to himself. The crew's story is closely connected to the shifting alliances that define the New World, where a captain may need to conceal his true purpose to stay close to dangerous enemies.

X Drake's Double Life
Drake's past as a Marine helps distinguish him from other pirate captains. His move into piracy is tied to a covert assignment: he becomes part of SWORD, a secret Marine unit whose members can operate outside normal command structures. That hidden connection changes how readers interpret his actions and explains why he takes risks that do not always seem to benefit his pirate career.
As an undercover operative, Drake joins the Beasts Pirates and becomes one of their Tobiroppo. The position gives him access to a powerful crew led by Kaido, but it also places him among people who would punish any sign of disloyalty. His role requires patience, restraint, and the ability to keep a convincing public identity.
Power and Dinosaur Transformations
Drake's Devil Fruit gives him the ability to transform into an Allosaurus and a human-Ancient Zoan hybrid. These forms give him the durability and physical power associated with the ancient dinosaur category of Zoan abilities. His combat style is direct and forceful, a strong contrast with his careful work as an undercover agent.
The transformation also gives the Drake Pirates a memorable connection to the Beast Pirates' wider theme of animal powers. Yet Drake's own motivations are different. While the crew around him prizes strength and domination, his actions are guided by an assignment and by judgments he makes about which threats must be confronted.

Why the Drake Pirates Matter
The crew's profile is inseparable from the question of identity. In a story where the labels “Marine” and “pirate” often fail to explain a person's values, Drake's double life shows how complicated those roles can become. He is willing to work among pirates without fully sharing their ambitions, and his decisions force him to balance secrecy against the chance to help people in immediate danger.
Drake also provides a useful contrast to other Worst Generation captains. Basil Hawkins reads probabilities, Capone Bege builds plans around leverage, and Luffy follows his instincts. Drake's choices are shaped by intelligence work and a willingness to act when circumstances demand it. The crew name may point to one captain, but his story connects several major forces in the New World.
