Sawfish-themed pirate ship near a tropical shore for the Arlong Pirates

Arlong Pirates

Who are the Arlong Pirates?

The Arlong Pirates were led by Arlong, a sawshark fish-man who sought to establish fish-man supremacy over humans. The crew took control of Cocoyasi Village in the East Blue and demanded tribute from its residents. Their occupation of the village forms the heart of Nami’s early story and Luffy’s first major battle in the Grand Line’s shadow.

The crew’s history connects to the Sun Pirates and their former captain Fisher Tiger. Read also about the Gyro Pirates.

Arlong’s rule and Nami’s story

Arlong used Nami’s cartography skills while holding her village under his control. He promised to free the villagers once she earned enough money to buy their freedom, then betrayed that promise. Luffy and the Straw Hats defeated Arlong and liberated Cocoyasi, making the conflict a turning point in the crew’s journey.
