Kikkawa Clan

The Kikkawa clan (吉川氏 Kikuchi-shi) was a clan in feudal Japan descended from the Fujiwara family that ruled the provinces of Izumo, Aki, and Suō (Kyūshū) during the Sengoku period.
The most famous member of the clan was probably Kikkawa Motoharu (1530-1586), general of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who adopted him into the family.
Together with the Kobayakawa clan, the Kikkawa played an important role in the Toyotomi conquest of Kyushu (1586-7), and later became daimyō in Izumo province, residing in Iwakuni Castle.
Kikkawa Clan History
Kikkawa Tsuneyoshi (吉川経義), founder of the clan, was the son of Irie Kageyoshi (入江景義), whose clan Irie descended from the southern family of the Fujiwara clan through the Kudō clan.
